Once you step out of the front door on Via Lucana, Piazzetta Pascoli is a two-minute walk away. It is Matera’s most famous viewpoint: before you open the Sasso Caveoso and the Sasso Barisano, and further off the expanse of the Murgia.
Go there twice. In the morning, with the low light on the rooftops, and in the evening, when the Sassi light up one after another.
The rest of the view is right at home. From the terrace on the upper floor you can see the Cathedral, its bell towers and the rooftops of the old town, in a light that changes at every hour of the day.
